What the Feeding Cradle does

The Feeding Cradle is a tension-free fabric feeding system that sits ahead of a cutting machine and advances material to it without putting tension on the fabric. The roll is held in a cradle, and the system feeds fabric forward in step with the cutter so the material reaches the cutting area flat and relaxed. Feed speed is digitally adjustable from 0 to 85 m/min, with controlled acceleration and deceleration, and working widths cover 180, 200 and 220 cm.

Feeding fabric under tension distorts the weave and shifts the cut, which shows up most on stretch and technical materials. The Feeding Cradle handles a wide range of materials on one machine, including Lycra, denim, carbon fibre and Kevlar, so the same feeder serves an apparel cutting room and a composites shop.

How it keeps the feed tension-free

The system manages fabric tension automatically, with three ways to read the feed: a tension detection bar, an electronic signal, or encoder synchronisation with the cutting machine. Selvage alignment is handled by infrared so the fabric edge stays true, and an automatic end-of-fabric stop halts the feed when the roll runs out. Every automated function has a manual override, so the operator can step in when a job needs it.

Main drive is by brushless or variable-speed motors, which give smooth speed control across the full 0 to 85 m/min range. The roll cradle takes a 50 cm diameter roll as standard and up to 100 cm as an option, with a maximum roll weight of 100 kg, so it suits both short sampling runs and full production rolls.
